Pooky Piders

There is a storage room in the basement that we have never used, I dont know why- I guess because the previous owners didnt either and when we moved in we had enough to deal with without cleaning it out. It is currently home to a whole bunch of firewood ( why??) and a million bajillion spiders. I want to start using it but am having panic attacks about cleaning it out and setting loose thousands of angry spiders. Plus I looked it up on the web and it said if spiders are there it is bc they are eating insects and if you take them away the insect population will boom. Yick. I dont know what to do.
